Give it a Swirl, the National Day of Volunteering, is a unique initiative that concentrates on hands-on involvement; giving volunteers an immediate sense of achievement. The Clare Volunteer Centre is supported a number of projects that happened around County Clare on Friday, September 25th 2009

A Mobile Phone Clinic was held in conjunction with Age Action Ireland at McDonald’s Ennis. The clinics were aimed at people over the age of 55.  Volunteering staff from McDonald’s Ennis were on hand to teach people how to use their mobile , covering everything from turning it on – to sending multimedia messages.  Manuals have been supplied by Age Action Ireland and the volunteers on the day were easy to spot with their ‘Give it a Swirl’ tee shirts

Later that day, The Clare Volunteer Centre also supported the children from the After School Programme in Scoil Chríost Rí in a Litter Busting Event in the Fair Green in Ennis from 3pm to 4pm.  Volunteers were on hand to show the children that volunteering can start at any age.  The young volunteers were brought to McDonald’s in Ennis, where the Clare Volunteer Centre provided them with treats, and the McDonald’s staff were on hand to brighten up their faces with face paint!
